ABOUT THE BUSINESS

We are an innovative, renewable energy company in Rochester, NY that has become a regional solar powerhouse. We now boast a significant market share in the fast-growing Rochester residential solar market which is home to more than 1 million people with a thriving commercial solar construction business.

We have put together a total package that removes all of the legwork and makes going solar easy for our customers. We pick the best equipment manufacturers, line up the finest installers and arrange attractive financing to save our customers real money – all while doing right by the planet and ensuring solar is accessible to all.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Financial Controller at SunCommon NY will guide our fast-growing Benefit Corporation to its next level of growth and success. This position is new and requires an individual who is patient, determined and can easily balance a variety of challenging tasks with the joys and stresses of a growth stage business.

The correct Financial Controller will instruct all of our departments on the accounting needs of our company and keep the financial health of business at the forefront of her/his priorities. The position will report directly to our CEO.

This individual must be self-motivated with outstanding, moral character who models our mission to use our business as a force of good.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supervise staff accountant and accounting clerk regarding all deliverables;
  • All inputs to and maintenance of the accounting system;
  • Maintaining and instituting functional, transparent accounting policies and procedures;
  • Lead accurate and timely month end close process;
  • Preparation of financial statements for all reporting needs;
  • Interface with tax accountants;
  • Manage and direct annual budget process with all departments;
  • Govern all credit and collections issues;
  • Establishing and monitoring internal controls;
  • Preparation for and management of annual audit of financial statements;
  • Monitor sales and use tax filings;
  • Manage Community Solar Array accounting processes;
  • All other responsibilities as assigned by the CEO.

SKILLS AND EDUCATION

  • CPA preferred;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a fast-growing company or similar experience;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills as well as considerable people intelligence;
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills;
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks is a plus, but not required;
  • Ability to protect organization’s value (financially and mission);
  • Propensity toward fairness, common sense and honesty.
