ABOUT THIS POSITION
Governmental policy has been central to our company since inception, juggled among many other core activities. Having reached our current scale, this position will focus on the important business priority of clean energy policy development, government relations and utility affairs – to comprise 50-75% of the work. The remaining capacity will be hands-on project development for net-metered solar projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Reporting to SunCommon Co-President, James Moore, this position is responsible for:
- Developing sound public policy to create market solutions to climate change.
- Maintaining productive working relationships with legislators, regulators, members of the Governor’s administration, and utility representatives.
- Representing SunCommon at proceedings of the Public Utilities Commission, Public Service Department and legislature.
- Representing SunCommon at state, regional and national trade associations.
- Working with our commercial business development team to identify and secure ideal sites for 200-700 kW solar projects for third party investment or ownership by SunCommon.
- Leading the project development for the selected projects to include permitting, financing and all other project due diligence.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
- Alignment with SunCommon’s purpose and vision.
- Minimum three years clean energy policy development, government relations and/or utility affairs.
- Vision to innovate policy toward market-solutions to climate change on behalf of our sector broadly and our business specifically.
- Minimum three years of demonstrated success in clean energy project development work, with proven results.
- Ability to use writing and speaking skills to influence and motivate stakeholders.
- Demonstrated skill in nurturing and developing strong stakeholder relationships.
- Commitment to be a strong team player.
- Willingness to travel within our territory — working odd hours as necessary to participate in hearings, workshops, meetings and the like.
- Ability to work in our open office environment, comfortable with the proximity of colleagues engaged in similar volumes of work.
