Job Description

Our Associate Solar Designers understand that quality and speed should work in harmony. This position holds a key position between the sales and operations team and ensures the customer’s goals are met and expectations set with a practical and safe system that will perform beautifully for decades. This position reviews the customer’s electricity need, the solar resource and all the parameters of their site to create a detailed plan for them to go solar – including electrical drawings and equipment list.   As a central member of the Residential Team, this position will be expected to always look for ways to streamline the entire process, not just the design function.

This position is responsible for delivering top quality residential solar system designs that our installers will rely on as well as helping our customers visualize their future system.  Previous experience in solar design is desired but not required and women encouraged to apply.  We have a robust training program and internal mentoring program for new staff.

This is a full-time, temporary position. We expect that this position will be in place until May 1st 2018.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The Associate Solar Designer will:

  • Apply solar design principals, National Electric Code requirements, structural load analysis, production analysis, and financial analysis on a daily bases,
  • With drafting software, create 3D and 2D models and plans,
  • Have to be comfortable in a fast-paced office environment mostly working on a computer,
  • Have high-volume use of CRM database and will need to maintain records to a high degree of accuracy,
  • Collaborate with colleagues, customers, and 3rd parties to deliver designs that customers want to purchase,
  • Desire to improve personal and company performance through eager absorption of constructive criticism,
  • Contribute joy and a good work ethic to support the wellbeing of our community

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Commitment to SunCommon’s purpose and vision.
  • A four-year college degree or related Solar or engineering experience,
  • Strong team player with superior oral and written communication skills, and solid relationship building skills.
  • Computer proficiency including mastery of Microsoft Office suite, Sketchup (or other CAD program), CRM software (e.g. Salesforce), and file management.
  • Basic knowledge and training of electrical and structural engineer concepts needed. Greater experience and proficiency is highly desired.
