OUR PURPOSE

SunCommon is fueled by the belief that everyone has the right to a healthy environment and brighter future — and renewable energy is where it starts.  We recognize that energy from the sun can power our lives and build vibrant communities. And so, our mission is to tear down the barriers to clean energy and use our business as a force for good. To this end, we make going solar easy and affordable so that all Vermonters together can take part in building our state’s clean energy future. SunCommon is a Benefit Corporation based out of Waterbury Village.

ABOUT THE BUSINESS

In just 5 years, SunCommon has grown into Vermont’s largest residential solar business having helped over 3500 Vermonters get in on solar – either building solar at home or by joining a Community Solar Array.  We generate significant revenue, profitably. Our innovative business process begins with a community organizing approach to marketing, via high-touch, personal interactions with home and business owners who want solar but couldn’t figure it out or didn’t think they could afford it.  We’ve done all the legwork to put together a total package that’s easy for the customer.  We picked the highest quality equipment, custom-designed the right solar system, lined up the finest installers, and arranged attractive financing that saves our customers real money by doing right by the planet.

Starting with our first conversation with a prospective new customer, we aim to delight. To achieve our mission – and be the force that transitions our state to clean energy – our customers have to love the whole experience of buying and owning solar. From community organizer to install crew lead, we are focused on delivering a joyful customer experience.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

SunCommon’s Creative Coordinator and Copywriter will be responsible for turning creative project briefs into finished projects – from idea to reality. And will put pen to paper themselves to meet the copy needs of any of these collateral projects. This is a part-time, 20 hour/week position.

SunCommon has built a vibrant marketing program, beginning with our field organizers who spend their time out and about in Vermont communities – hosting events, meeting with community leaders, building partnerships, and canvassing neighborhoods. Our digital team manages our online presence – from email marketing to social media content to search engine advertising. Lastly, our Solar Storyteller packages our stories for traditional media, ensuring SunCommon is in print on a regular basis.

Each team within the marketing program demands strong, compelling collateral to support their work. Our field team might need door hangers to promote a local community campaign. Our digital team might need a graphics series or animation to tell a different aspect of the SunCommon story. Our Storyteller might need email series to announce a new product to our network, as she announces it in the media.

The Creative Coordinator and Copywriter will work with the project lead to define and then execute the project, coordinating our graphic designer and our different production vendors, to deliver the new piece on the needed timeline.

  • Commitment to the advancement of clean energy. Shares a passion for our mission.

HOW WE WORK

We feel huge a responsibility to succeed – in order to honor our triple bottom line commitments to people (our employees and their families, our customers and residents of the communities where we do business), planet (Vermont’s beloved environment and the broader globe, given climate change) and profit (providing capital to grow, revenue to share among our employees and a reasonable return to our investors). This is important work, and we have fun doing it. Successful innovation is fun stuff.

We do it by celebrating creativity, cross-functional collaboration, high energy, hard work, good play, deep networking and acknowledging that we’ll each make mistakes and learn from them. We know success. We know fun. Come do both with us.

In addition to meaningful work, we offer competitive salary and generous benefits. Our values are reflected in where we get to work — Vermont’s first net positive building, generating more energy than it uses from the solar array on our roof.

Based on a confidential survey, our employees have voted SunCommon among the state’s “Best Places to Work” four years running.
